I've been going to a nice little life drawing group for the past few weeks, it's been really beneficial for me since I don't get to do much life drawing at university. I thought I might as well share a few of my favorite sketches from these sessions, so here you go.

A few more sketchbook pages: the first is of my younger sister, draw from life. The others are of my friend Shawna drawn from screecaps.

Work in progress

I've pushed aside previous painting plans in favour of a new desire to paint from life as much as possible. I don't have anyone to model for me at the moment so I'm working on a self portrait using a mirror. I'm really excited with how this is coming along as I've hardly done any painting from life, only quick things in class at uni which were never really resolved works. So yes, I've been camped out on the floor of my room staring at myself all day and I feel great.

messy starts.

Today I was doing a few sketches to get some ideas down for a painting and though I didn't end up going with this composition and pose I like the sketch quite a lot. I did start on a painting this afternoon though, so I'm excited to work on that some more and share it here once it's been developed a bit further.

quick things, half things

A couple more quick sketches for the sketchbook project.

Also found out today that I have the opportunity to be involved in a group show in Sydney, I've confirmed that I'd like to take part in the show and I'm excited to paint something new for it. It's taking place at the end of January, so I have the first part of the month to work out what I'm doing and make something new. It's really nice to have something like this to start off the year.

sketchbook project

So I've started the sketchbook project for 2012. My theme this year is 'The Companion Book' and I'm intending to do quite a bit of rough, quick, fun sketches in here with less emphasis on finished drawings. These are my first two sketches!
